Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo



The Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo (called Hyogo ken-ritsu hito to shizen no hakubutsukan: HITOHAKU in Japanese) has opened since October 10, 1992. The purpose of this museum is to help Prefecture Hyogo residents and other people appreciate the beauty and dignity of the natural environment around us. Here visitors can enjoy unique exhibits and educational programs about nature and human life.
	Organization

	Research The museum supports natural and urban environment interdisciplinary research.

	Collections The museum houses extensive collections of geological and biological specimens, as well as photographs, print, and recordings. Our herbarium (HYO) is also listed in Index Herbariorum.

10:00 am to 5:00 pm, admission until 4:30 pm.

Closed
Every Monday (or Tuesday if the National Holiday falls on Monday).
From 28th December until 4th January, and other days for occasional renovation.

Transportation

By Train:
* From Osaka Station take the JR Line to the Sanda Station. And the Kobe Dentetsu Line to the Flower Town Station. 5 minutes walk from there.
* From Sannomiya Station take the Hokushin Kyuko Line to the Tanigami Station. And the Kobe Dntetsu Line to the Flower Town Station. 5 minutes walk from there.
By Car : The Museum is 5 minutes from the Kobe Sanda Interchange.

Starting at the third floor and ending at the first floor, the permanent exhibits are arranged into five themes.


	Information Center
	Videos featuring wild life in Hyogo can be seen in one or three person booths. The one person booths also allow visitors to access information on items in the museum, on where the flora of Hyogo can be accessible, and on the geology and landscapes of Hyogo.

	Information Display System
	The museum information system also sends "hot" bulletins to A and B Information Boxes. The A Boxes are located in each Exhibit Corner, and the B Boxes are located in the Entrance Hall and in the Rest Corners on each floor.

	Reference Room
	Here you'll find a variety of plant, animal, rock, mineral, and fossil specimens. Visual materials dealing with environmental education are also available. Visitors are invited to examine all of these items. If you have any questions, please ask at the Reference Room Counter.


1.	Chronicles of Nature in Hyogo
	Extending from the Japan sea to the Seto Inland Sea, Hyogo is composed of a number of unique natural environments. Large panels, videos, and the georama highlight the distinctive natural beauty of the Tajima, Tanba, Harima, Hanshin, and Awaji areas.

2.	Man and Nature
	Here we review the history of man and his environment.

3.	Culture of the Generation
	These exhibits feature intriguing ideas, ranging from urban redevelopment to personal enrichment. All of these highlight living in harmony with nature.


4.	The Biological World
	Here we find exhibits that feature the wildlife in rivers. There are also exhibits that introduce us to the wide variety found in the biological world.


5.	Our Planet with Life
	The earth appeared more than four billion years ago. It has been home to a succession of plants and animals. The georama re-creates for us the rich abundance of life in the beech-tree forests of Mt. Hyonosan. We can also follow the development of life on earth, from its origin over three billion years ago to the apparance of man, as traced with a succession of fossils. This section concludes with beautiful images of the planet of life.
